5 Days Private Jeep Tour Mitzpe Ramon - Eilat (Israel)
Day 1:
We start driving along the cliffs of the Ramon Crater, a unique geological phenomenon. This is a good opportunity to look over the edge of the crater and hear an explanation about its creation. The dirt-road leads us by the edge of the crater and to Metzad* Machmal. From now on we will be driving on the famous "Incense Road", where the Nabatheans led caravans loaded with expensive Myrrh and frankincense from "Arabia Felix" and through Petra to the port of Gaza. We will leave the jeeps here, and hike down the ancient ascent. The jeeps will drive around, through "Ma'ale* Noah" (which really means "The convenient Ascent"…) and pick us up at the bottom. We then continue on the wide "Oil Road" and on to the oasis Ein* Saharonim, where we visit an ancient caravanserai that is also a part of the "Incense Road". Now we have a really challenging off-road drive down Ma'ale* Dekalim ("Palms Ascent") which brings us to our first campsite at the entrance to the Canyon of Nachal* Nekarot.
Day 2:
Today we continue on the "Incense Road" through the Canyon of Nachal* Nekarot. We stop by Metzad* Nekarot and try to find the hidden cistern there. The "Incense Road" takes us up to Metzad* Katzra, from which we have a wide look over the area, and on the road towards Petra. We continue on this road, until we reach the big oasis and caravanserai of Moa. Before sunset we will start to look for our night-camp somewhere near Nachal* Ashosh.
Day 3:
Drive through the majestic canyon of Nachal* Ashosh, and out to Har* (Mt.) Kippa, from where we can enjoy a wide view over the central Negev Desert. We stop near the impressive gorge of Nachal* Barak, where we leave the jeeps and climb on rope-ladders over the (usually dry…) Barak Waterholes. We continue deep into the desert, and down the steep and challenging Vardit Ascent, which eventually brings us to the canyon of Nachal* Paran, Israel's biggest Wadi (dry river). Our off-road drive through Nachal* Paran finally brings us to the paved highway. A short drive on the paved road brings us to the Kesui Sand-dunes where, after "fooling around" a little, we will set our camp for the night.
Day 4:
At the beginning of the day we will take a look at some of the archaeological excavations in the Uvda Valley. Among them we find the famous "Leopards Temple". Then we continue to drive along the Uvda Valley to Be'er* Milchan, an ancient well, restored by the British. Our jeeps will take us to the Timna Cliffs, where we can enjoy the good view. Then we start a challenging 4x4 drive through Nachal* Metek, where some unusual Gypsum-stones can be seen. We continue to the "Scouts Ascent" and climb down by foot (…and hand!) to the Etek Waterholes. After a further off-road-drive we set our camp near Nachal Racham.
Day 5:
We drive through the abandoned army-camp Be'er* Ora and then to the "Wadi of the Statues", called after the "statues" carved by the wind in its colorful sandstone. We will also visit Ein* Evrona, the Doum Palms, and the Evrona Pools, famous for the flamingo birds that made it their home, before we reach Eilat through a variety of ever-changing landscapes.
